The Opportunity | Te āheinga

 

In 2024 Puke Ariki Library become part of the Cultural Experiences Group for Council including the Library, Museum and Art Gallery.  We are looking for a Senior Librarian to work at Puke Ariki Library, to manage the daily operations, support the team and contribute as one of our team of Seniors who are responsible for the library on a rostered basis.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of Puke Ariki Libraries as we take on a new direction, integrating services and working more collaboratively across the Cultural Experiences group.  We have a new Library Strategy and are focussing on delivering exceptional services to our customers.

 

We are looking for someone with experience working in Public Libraries who has an understanding of what is current going on in the community, who builds relationships with colleagues easily and is able to support the wider Library leadership team as necessary.

 

Key Responsibilities | Ngā haepapa matua

 

  • Undertake rostered shifts on the desk which would include some Wednesday evenings and weekend work
  • Provide support for rostering and daily task rotation administration
  • Respond to customer enquiries to ensure customers receive service that exceeds their expectations
  • Assist customers in the use of Library technology
  • Use expertise to assist customers to find appropriate reading materials to suit different age ranges, and support staff in doing so
  • Contribute to and ensure collection management is undertaken – shelving books, shelf checking, display work and tidying
  • Contribute to a range of attractive displays
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery programmes and events across the library network
  • Collate monthly statistics
  • Develop and revise Library policies and procedures as necessary
  • Contribute to and actively support a positive team culture
  • Provide training to staff as necessary
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga and Te Reo Māori

Essential Skills and Experience | Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako

 

  • A relevant library qualification
  • Experience working in libraries (preferably Public Libraries)
  • Competency in Library Management systems
  • Strong interpersonal and demonstrated people management skills
  • Proven ability to build and maintain successful relationships
  • Experience in delivering programming and events
  • Full drivers licence desirable
