Community Library Team Leader – Ōmōkihi South Library and Spreydon Library

 

Ōmōkihi, Te Kete Wānanga o wai Mōkihi is a new facility being built to replace the earthquake-damaged South Library and Customer Service Hub in the suburb of Beckenham. It will include a library, customer services, café, multi-purpose rooms and a fit-for-purpose creative technologies room. Until this facility is completed you will manage teams and services in temporary facilities.

 

Spreydon Library, Te Kete Wānanga o Ōpāwaho is a smaller neighbourhood library that has served a diverse and active community for almost 100 years.

 

We are looking for a visionary, focused leader who can work collaboratively across teams and geographic areas and who is committed to supporting our Treaty of Waitangi obligations. In your first year you will draw together kaimahi scattered across various locations to build a new service from Ōmōkihi.

 

You will be key in establishing, providing direction, empowering, and motivating your teams to provide quality programmes and services. You will also set up systems and processes to support the day-to-day operations of other teams and services within Ōmōkihi.

  • Managing a team of 30-34 including Associate Team Leaders, Librarians, Library Assistants and Shelvers
  • Building relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Coaching and developing members of staff
  • Facility Management
  • Recruiting and inducting new team members and assisting with network recruitment as required
  • Contributing to libraries network projects and activities

 

About you | Ko Koe Tēnei

 

  • Level 7 qualification with 10 years library or other relevant experience
  • Management of large multifaceted teams

  • Hours of work - Full time, this role operates on a rotating roster aligned with standard business hours. However, occasional evening and weekend work may be required to meet business needs.
  • Position - Permanent 
  • Location - This position is primarily based at Spreydon Library initially until Ōmōkihi (66 Colombo Street) is open approx. December 2026 
  • Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $55.51 - $61.68 per hour. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
  • Closing Date - Monday 20th October 2025

 

Please note: you will initially be based from Spreydon Library looking after 3 services South Colombo, Spreydon Library & South Mobile Van. In approx. December 2026 when Ōmōkihi opens this role will be looking after Ōmōkihi & Spreydon Libraries. Please visit Christchurch City Libraries Ngā Kete Wānanga o Ōtautahi for opening hours.
