LIANZA 2027 Conference

Conference Dates: 13-14 October 2027

LIANZA 2027 Conference Committee Expression of Interest

LIANZA is seeking expressions of interest from members who would like to be part of the team responsible for planning the LIANZA 2027 Conference.

The LIANZA Conference is the premier gathering of New Zealand's library and information sector, bringing together professionals from all sectors and career stages. The LIANZA 2027 Conference will take place on 13-14 October 2027 at the Aotea Centre, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.

For 2027, we're taking the conference experience to a new level with exclusive use of the entire Aotea Centre. That means we'll have room to make the most of everything the conference has to offer, from a vibrant exhibition space to a wide range of breakout sessions, designed to encourage meaningful conversations, professional connections and ongoing collaboration throughout the conference.

We are looking for members from a range of library sectors, regions, career stages, and areas of expertise to join the Conference Committee and help shape a programme that reflects the diversity, innovation, and aspirations of our profession.

The role of the Conference Committee

Working alongside LIANZA Office staff, committee members will contribute to:

  • Developing the conference theme and programme
  • Identifying keynote speakers and invited presenters
  • Reviewing presentation proposals and recommending programme content
  • Advising on and supporting networking and engagement opportunities
  • Promoting the conference through professional networks
  • Providing sector insights and perspectives to help ensure the conference meets member needs
  • Delivering the conference.

LIANZA Office staff will lead conference administration, logistics, sponsorship, exhibition management, registration, communications and event delivery.

Time commitment

The Conference Committee is expected to meet approximately every 3 weeks, primarily online, with meeting frequency increasing as the conference approaches.

Why join?

Serving on the Conference Committee is an opportunity to:

  • help shape LIANZA's premier national event.
  • contribute to conversations that influence the future of the library and information profession in Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • build connections with colleagues from across the sector.
  • develop leadership, governance, and event-planning experience.
  • support an event that brings together members, partners, exhibitors, and sponsors from across the library and information ecosystem.

As a member of the Conference Committee, you will also:

  • receive early insights into conference planning, programme development and speaker selection.
  • participate in a site visit and venue familiarisation tour of the Aotea Centre, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the conference space and attendee experience.
  • receive recognition for your contribution in conference communications and materials.
  • contribute to your professional development and earn CPD points towards CertLIANZA or Professional Registration through your involvement with the Conference Committee.
  • receive complimentary registration for the LIANZA 2027 Conference.

Who should apply?

We welcome expressions of interest from LIANZA members working in all parts of the library and information sector, including public, school, tertiary, special, research, heritage, and other libraries. We particularly encourage expressions of interest from members who can bring diverse perspectives, experiences, and expertise to the planning process.

We are looking for people who are enthusiastic about the library and information profession and keen to contribute to a successful conference. Strong applicants will bring some of the following:

  • a passion for supporting and advancing the library and information sector in Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • an interest in creating meaningful professional development, networking and learning opportunities for colleagues.
  • a collaborative approach and willingness to work constructively as part of a team.
  • connections to communities, sectors, networks or areas of practice that can help ensure the conference reflects a wide range of perspectives.
  • an ability to contribute ideas, provide feedback and participate in discussions and decision-making.
  • reliability and a commitment to attending meetings and completing agreed tasks.
  • creativity, innovation, and a desire to help shape an engaging conference experience.
  • experience in areas such as event planning, programme development, sponsorship, communications, marketing, partnerships, finance, governance, or project management is welcomed but not essential.

We recognise that valuable contributions come from a wide range of experiences.

Whether you are early in your career or a seasoned professional, we encourage you to apply if you are excited about helping deliver an outstanding LIANZA 2027 Conference.

You do not need to be located in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and people are sought from any role within the GLAMMIR sector.

All members of the committee need to be personal members of LIANZA (this includes enhanced institutional members), Te Rōpū Whakahau or staff at LIANZA member institutions.

Appointment process

The LIANZA Board will appoint the Conference Committee after considering the skills, experience, sector representation, geographic spread, career-stage diversity and perspectives represented across the applicant pool. The aim is to establish a committee that reflects the breadth of the library and information profession in Aotearoa New Zealand and is well placed to develop a conference programme that delivers value for attendees while supporting meaningful engagement with exhibitors, sponsors, and industry partners.
