I don’t have any qualifications but have gained professional knowledge on the job over many years. Can I register?

Yes. Provided you can establish that you have worked in a library in a professional role for at least 10 years.

What is defined as ‘a professional role’?

Someone working in a professional role provides a normal range of front-line and/or back-of-house professional library and information management services. They exercise judgment in dealing with a range of non-routine operational or conceptual tasks and can recommend improvements. They often have a library qualification. This person is either supervised by a team leader or manager or is one.

I have an overseas library degree, how do I register?

If your degree is from Australia, Canada, South Africa, the United Kingdom or the United States of America, attach a photocopy of it to your application. If your degree is not from one of these countries, you need to have it evaluated by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority. NZQA evaluation normally takes up to 20 days and costs $450.

I worked overseas for several years in a professional role. Can my overseas service count towards registration?

Yes. Remember to contact overseas employers to verify that your employment was in a professional role.

How much will it cost to be registered?

The annual registration fee is $112.50 (incl GST) per year additional to your membership subscription of an association which is a recognised participant of the scheme. You will be invoiced once your registration has been approved by the Board.  There is also an initial non-refundable application fee of $56.25 (inc GST).

I graduated with a library degree after 1 July 2007. Can I still register?

Yes, but only after you have completed a mentoring arrangement. Click on 'New Graduates' in the left hand column of this page to find out the details and an application form.

Will successful 2007 Associate & Fellowship applicants be eligible for automatic registration?

Yes, successful 2007 applicants for LIANZA Associates & Fellowships will be eligible for automatic registration. Successful applicants will be notified shortly.

Using RLIANZA with other acronyms/qualifications

Being registered doesn't supercede Associateship or Fellowship, it is therefore suggested that qualifications or awards be noted first followed by registration e.g. FLIANZA, RLIANZA
