The Emerging Leaders project was developed with the goal of identifying and supporting emerging leaders within the Library and Information sector in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The Working Group quickly identified that while there were various leadership programmes and opportunities within the sector – for example Aurora, INELI, and those run by large employers – there was a tacit assumption in each that future leaders were also future managers.
They developed the LIANZA statement on leadership which outlined the key principles on which the emerging leaders work would be based.
Essentially LIANZA’s leadership work is being developed to supplement other leadership programmes in the sector, with the goal of supporting individuals to lead from any position. In addition we are committed to ensuring that geography and cost are not barriers to participation.
The Kōtuku program – which was launched at the LIANZA 2014 conference – has been developed by Lynley Stone and has multiple components to support leadership within the sector.
Lynley's presentation at LIANZA 2014 is available here.
Management support to assist managers in identifying and growing leadership within their teams
A residential programme for a select group of emerging leaders each year: we've now delivered two cohorts!
The Emerging Leaders project is one of three initiatives developed by LIANZA to strengthen the library and information profession in New Zealand and was launched as a result of member feedback in 2012.
