Update on Google Books Settlement

As you may know, a revised settlement proposal was submitted by the parties in the Google Books copyright infringement case this past November in response to specific objections voiced by the United States' Department of Justice.

As a result, the deadline for rights holders to opt out of the settlement has been moved to January 28; the Department of Justice has been given until February 4 to respond to the revised proposal; and a Fairness Hearing has been scheduled for February 18.

At the present time, the situation remains too uncertain to allow for official comment from IFLA, but we will keep you informed as more news about the situation is made available.
