News RoomAnnouncing the theme for Library Week 2009
5 May 2009ESCAPE, EXPLORE, DISCOVER! You should already have your calendars marked with dates for Library Week 2009 but if not please set aside 10-16 August to celebrate libraries and YOUR profession! We are very excited to announce Escape, Explore, Discover as the theme for Library Week 2009. The key message is that libraries enable you to escape into a world of discovery and exploration that will bring about an enriching and positive experience. We have some exciting visuals planned to support the theme and our design team are currently working hard to produce something amazing! We hope to attract more people to libraries this year and with the very generous support of The Association of Public Library Managers (APLM) we will be taking Library Week to the streets of the major metropolitan cities with a poster campaign! Once again your library will receive a package of Library Week posters and bookmarks and the Library Week website will include more downloads, competitions, activities and all the information you need to celebrate the week. Returning this year is NZ's Biggest Storytime on Wednesday 12th August at 10.30am. We have a team of experts working hard to choose the right story and we will be announcing the title very soon so watch this space! Other Library Week events from previous years on the agenda include Living Heritage Day and Living Libraries. A number of libraries held very successful Living Library events in 2008 and we will be asking them to share their inside knowledge with you to help you with your planning. The Library Week website is currently being rebranded for 2009 and we hope to have the site live end of June or early July. We have a number of exciting new online features and web based competitions for all ages and we will be making some announcements over the next couple of month so stay tuned!
