Expressions of Interest - Editor of Library Life

LIANZA is seeking expressions of interest from LIANZA members for the role of Editor of Library Life commencing June 2008 when current Editor Glen Walker takes on the role of LIANZA President.

Library Life is New Zealand's premier LIS newsletter which includes regular columns from the LIANZA President, Te Roopu Whakahau Tumuaki and Editor along with current news, updates and events from the LIANZA office, Regions, SIG's, libraries and publishers.

Library Life has 11 issues per year (February to December) occasionally producing a themed issue.

Much of the regular content is on standing order or is sourced by the Communications & Publications Coordinator (with consultation) however the Editor should be regularly inviting members of the profession to submit articles and reports on topical issues.

Skills needed/desired include:

  • Good understanding of current and emerging Library, LIS and tech trends essential
  • Following up on interesting news and persuading people to write/comment
  • Good level of literacy and eye for detail
  • Previous experience of writing or editing preferred but not essential
  • Cross-sectoral experience or appreciation highly desirable.
  • Wide circle of contacts
  • Widely read is a bonus


Appointment Process

The position is advertised and expressions of interest are sought from LIANZA members. The final decision will be made by the LIANZA National Council. This role will require some work with colleagues and the LIANZA office during business hours, please ensure that you have the support of your Employer.
