Expressions of Interest - Editor of the New Zealand Library and Information Management Journal

LIANZA is seeking expressions of interest from LIANZA members for the role of Editor of the New Zealand Library and Information Management Journal (NZLIMJ) commencing June 2008 when current Editor Glen Walker takes on the role of LIANZA President.

The NZLIMJ is published in an online format biannually and hosted on the LIANZA website. Print editions of the Journal are distributed to all current LIANZA members.

The NZLIMJ is published by LIANZA with support from Victoria University of Wellington and is intended as a national forum on library and information management issues in New Zealand. It is not limited to a specific information sector or to articles of a particular type; rather, the content seeks to reflect the wide-ranging interests and needs of information professionals in New Zealand.

The material for the journal is essentially of two types:

(1) Peer-reviewed research-based articles containing original work relevant to libraries and information management in New Zealand;
(2) Feature articles or columns which are not peer-reviewed but which nevertheless reflect high standards of scholarship or insightful reflection on issues of current interest to the New Zealand information community.

The final formatting and layout of the journal is managed by LIANZA's Communications & Publications Coordinator.

There is a modest honorarium for this position.

Skills needed/required:

  • Very high literacy skills required
  • APA Referencing facility required
  • Excellent understanding of current and emerging Library, LIS and tech trends essential
  • Requires eye for good stories, items of importance to LIS in New Zealand now and in the future e.g. document trends, histories and NZ-related LIS books of note
  • Excellent communication skills - liaising with contributors and the Editorial Board
  • Understanding of copyright and publishing a bonus
  • Good eye for detail
  • Cross-sectoral point of view/knowledge desirable

Appointment Process

The position is advertised and expressions of interest are sought from LIANZA members. The final decision will be made by the LIANZA National Council. This role will require some work with colleagues and the LIANZA office during business hours, please ensure that you have the support of your Employer.
