17 April 2008LIANZA's Business Development Manager, Alli Smith, as Returning Officer, announced today the results of the 2008 Council elections.
"I am very pleased to announced that current Vice-President, Glen Walker has been elected unopposed to the position of President" Alli says. Glen is currently the Library Manager at Selwyn Libraries; he has served on the LIANZA Council for the past three years and was formerly Chair of the Aoraki Regional Council. Also elected unopposed to the LIANZA Council is Barbara Garriock, Institute Librarian at Manukau Institute of Technology Library who takes up the role of Vice-President. Barbara is well prepared for the role as she has twice served on the LIANZA Council and is a former Credentials Committee Chair. The newly elected Councillors for the seats representing Ikaroa and Otago Southland are Heather Lamond, College Liaison Librarian at Massey University in Palmerston North and Lynda Hodge, Library Manager at Southlands District Libraries respectively. Two nominations were received for the position of Councillor for the Waikato Bay of Plenty Region, for Joan Gibbons and Carol Spanhake, meaning an election will be held for this position. The Waikato Bay of Plenty Region will receive voting papers in early May for an election closing 5pm on Friday 30 May 2008.
