Position description - Programme Chair, New Zealand Library and Information Association Inc. (operating as LIANZA) Te Rau Herenga o Aotearoa

Background

The National Council of the New Zealand Library & Information Association Inc (operating as LIANZA) Te Rau Herenga o Aotearoa is seeking nominations for the position of Programme Committee Chair for the 2009 LIANZA Conference & Vendor Exhibition.

The 2009 LIANZA Conference will be held 10-14 October 2009 at the Christchurch Convention Centre.

LIANZA Council is seeking nominations from senior library & information managers with wide experience and understanding of library issues and national and international trends. The applicant will be a member of LIANZA and can be resident anywhere in the country. However, if the successful applicant is resident outside Christchurch they must be comfortable working online and able to lead a national programme committee from a distance. The programme chair will be expected to be a full participant in the Conference Committee regardless of location. The Programme Chair will appoint a Programme Committee in consultation with the Conference Convenor. The Programme Committee should be representative of or able to represent the individual sectors of the profession and will have responsibility for organising the full conference programme and inviting keynote speakers.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • To nominate and chair the Programme Committee;
  • plan, organise and manage the programme for the Conference, including the Awards presentations
  • invite keynote speakers; papers and other speakers in consultation with the PCO; and
  • actively participate as a member of the Conference Committee in the overall planning and organisation of the entire Conference & Vendor Exhibition.

 

Key Tasks

  • Select and appoint members of the Programme Committee in consultation with the Conference Convenor and allocate responsibilities and tasks
  • Provide the Conference Committee with regular progress reports
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings of the Conference Committee

 

Governance & Key Relationships

The Chair of the Programme Committee is appointed by LIANZA Council in consultation with the Conference Convenor and is a member of the Conference Committee. The Conference Committee includes the Conference Convenor, Social Committee Chair and the Programme Committee Chair, Bi-cultural Liaison, LIANZA Councillor with portfolio responsibility; LIANZA Business Development Manager; the LIANZA Communications Coordinator, and representatives of the PCO.

The Programme Chair will need to have close relationships with the convenors of Special
Interest Groups, academics and members of the profession.

 

Term of Appointment

The term of appointment is from mid 2008 to late 2009 to ensure all aspects of post conference activities have been completed.

 

Appointment Process

The position is advertised and expressions of interest are sought from LIANZA members. The final decision will be made by the LIANZA National Council in consultation with the Conference Convenor.

This role will require participation in work and or meetings during business hours. Please ensure that you have the support of your Employer. The Programme Chair must attend the full LIANZA Conference and while LIANZA pays registration (and accommodation if the Chair is not from Christchurch) applicants should ensure that they will be able to take the time off work.
