LIANZA Remuneration Survey Published

25 February 2008

The Chair of the LIANZA Remuneration Survey Committee, Moira Fraser, announced today the release of the full report of the Library and Information Profession's Remuneration Survey for 2007.

Moira said this is the second survey of its type undertaken by LIANZA and interesting comparisons have been drawn between the 2005 and 2007 data. This survey, conducted by market research house MM-Research invited participation from library and information employees in the public, special, tertiary and school sectors of the profession.

The key messages from the survey are:

  • There were 2363 survey respondents, a 61% response rate (considered high)
  • Remuneration has increased by 7.9% over the 2 years to $42,400
  • 51% of respondents work in public libraries and their increase was 7.2%
  • We are a highly qualified workforce and those with Library/information qualifications are paid significantly more
  • There are unexplained differences between what men and women are paid which merit further investigation

The LIANZA Remuneration Survey of the New Zealand Library and Information Profession - is available on the LIANZA Website in two formats; a topline report and the full report.

LIANZA would be pleased to receive any feedback from members on the report and emphasised that all the completed questionnaire information is held only by MM Research to preserve total confidentiality of personal information.
