Wynne Colgan, Life Member Of LIANZA Passes Away

LIANZA is sad to advise the passing of Wynne Colgan on 17 August 2011, he was a member of LIANZA for over 50 years, he was an Associate, Fellow and Life Member of LIANZA as well as a recipient of the LIANZA John Harris Award for a noteable published work.

Wynne was Deputy City Librarian of the Auckland Public Library from 1954 to 1982, a long and successful period in the history of the public library, which saw the planning and construction of the central city library in Lorne Street and the development of the branch libraries. It was the beginning of a successful partnership with Bob Duthie, who was appointed City Librarian in 1953 - they retired together in 1982.

Wynne was the chairman of the first International Film Festival committee, he wrote many film reviews for the NZ Herald and was a trustee of the Auckland branch of the Historic Places Trust for many years. He also wrote the history of the Auckland Public Library, "The Governor's Gift: The Auckland Public Library 1880-1980".
