Future Of The New Zealand Library And Information Management Journal

Victoria University of Wellington has generously sponsored the production of our professional journal since 2006.  Regretfully VUW has advised it will not be in a position to renew the sponsorship arrangement for a third term.

LIANZA has no alternative sponsorship proposals for consideration at this time, therefore, after the next publication of the Journal, which I understand from the Editor is likely to be May this year,  we will provide it as an on-line journal only.   Council believes an e-journal is consistent with LIANZA’s approach to communicating and publishing content on-line.   Should a suitable sponsor be found in the future, Council would reconsider this.

It costs approximately $15,000 per annum to print and distribute the paper based journal over and above the cost of the editor stipend and the office resources.

Council would also like to sincerely thank Gary for his chairmanship of the Editorial Board.  At this stage LIANZA has no plans to reappoint a chairman, but would like to thank current  members of the Board;  Philip Calvert (VUW), Amanda Cossham (OP), Dan Dorner (VUW), Jan Irvine (OP) and Gillian Oliver (OP) for their ongoing contribution as peer reviewers for journal articles.

We also note that Alison Fields editorship contract has expired.  She has kindly agreed to complete the next issue and we are now calling for Expressions of Interest for a new Editor for the Journal for the next two years.
