Background
LIANZA, as a membership association, is governed by a set of ‘Rules’ (sometimes referred to as a constitution) http://www.lianza.org.nz/about-us/lianza-rules. Any changes to the Association have to be allowable within the ‘Rules’.
LIANZA Council Appointments 2013-2014

Following the recent LIANZA Council elections we are pleased to advise members of the following appointments.
Paula Eskett has been re-nominated as Councillor for the Aoraki region and we welcome Amanda Cooper as the new Councillor for Hikuwai. Both Councillors were appointed unopposed.
2013 LIANZA Council elections update

Nominations for the 2013 LIANZA Council elections closed on Friday 26th April 2013.
The positions of President – Elect, Aoraki Councillor and Hikuwai Councillor all received one nomination so were uncontested. These appointments will be ratified by Council and will be announced on Friday 24 May.

LIANZA is participating in a landmark research study on the professional association sector in Australasia. This research will examine the role and performance of associations from member’s perspectives, and is the first of its kind in Australasia.
John Stears appointed Wellington's Libraries and Community Spaces Manager

John Stears was last week appointed to the role of Libraries and Community Spaces Manager at Wellington City Council. This role is a result of the restructure of a number of Council units into the Community Networks Unit, managed by Jane Hill.

The Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa (LIANZA) is pleased to see the final report on the future structure of Queenstown Lakes District Council indicates that the reduction in library staff hours is not as large as originally proposed however, the reduction of qualified library staff still poses a threat to the integrity of the region’s library services.
