An Introduction to Leadership
This self-paced LIANZA online learning course provides an overview of the topic of leadership within the context of the library and information professions.
In a time of rapid and dynamic change, there are limitless opportunities for people to develop their leadership skills and confidence. LIANZA recognises that developing a broad base of leaders is one of the most important things we can do to ensure a vibrant future.
This online course provides an overview of the topic of leadership, within the context of the library and information professions. Its target audience is people from any level of the industry, whether they are in management roles or not, who are interested in developing their understanding of leadership as a topic, and expanding their own leadership skills.
At the end of the course, you’ll have a good understanding of what leadership is, and why it is important. You will recognise the leadership qualities in yourself and others, and have created a development plan to carry your learning forward.
Course Content Creator
Lynley Stone is the LIANZA Leadership Facilitator. She is responsible for designing, developing and delivering LIANZA's leadership strategy. This strategy sets out to support people working at all levels in the library and information industry in developing their leadership skills, with the intention of building a stronger leadership base to take our industry into the future.
Lynley has worked for over 25 years in and with libraries, as a manager at the University of Auckland and University of Waikato Libraries until 2000, and since then as a library consultant (the Information Workshop) and library educator. She attended the Aurora Leadership Institute in 1997, and since then has had a passion for leadership and leadership development.
The course is self-paced and involves approximately four to five hours of online learning. Once you start, you will have six months to complete the course – plenty of time to fit your professional development in with a busy schedule.
The course won’t be facilitated by a tutor, you work your way through the material by reading a section of information and answering the check questions at the end of the section.
LIANZA has created this online course as an integral part of our new leadership initiative for the library and information management profession. The cost is being subsidised by LIANZA’s Emerging Leaders Project for people working in the profession.
The costs are:
- LIANZA members NZD$50.00 (GST inclusive)
- Non-members within the library and information management sector NZD$80.00 (GST inclusive)
- Anyone not working in the library and information management sector NZD$135.70 (GST inclusive)
