Special Interest Groups

Advocacy is one of LIANZA’s three key strategies for the Association’s work 2011-2014.

Advocacy is a high priority for all of us in the current economic environment we work in and LIANZA Council has decided to subsidise the Lobbying and Advocacy workshops to be presented by Sue McKerracher in April this year.

The subsidy will be $5,000 and this means that we are able to offer LIANZA members a $60 reduction in the fee and we hope this will make it easier for more of you to participate in the workshops offered. The workshop will run in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch only.

The morning session is for libraries with direct community contact (public and school). The afternoon session is for libraries serving specific user groups (academic, government, health, business and other specials).

Workshop leader: Sue McKerracher
Sue is a marketing and communications specialist based in Victoria, Australia. She ran the ALIA Every Member an Advocate campaign in 2010.

Course content:
The three-hour workshop will include an insider’s guide to successful lobbying and advocacy; how to develop and use ‘killer facts’ and how to create a situation where the only possible response is ‘yes’.

The content is the same in each workshop but so that participants are of a similar mindset, we’re suggesting that people from libraries with direct contact with the community (public and school) attend the morning session and people from libraries serving specific user groups (academic, government, health, business and other specials) attend the afternoon sessions.

BoK: 2 and 9
