Opening at the end of July 2005, the new Parklands library service will make quality book and electronic resources available to the Parklands community.
Library services will be delivered from a space that is flexible, adaptive, stimulating and dynamic. The 500 square metre library building, located alongside the retail community, will have a modern interior design combining the best features of retail and library environments. Customers will be able to use computers, read, meet friends (on-line, or in-person over coffee), attend special programmes and events, listen to music, and borrow books, magazines, CDs, DVDs and videos.

Children and youth of all ages will receive excellent homework and study support in an environment designed with their needs in mind. Energy for learning and creativity will be stimulated through the provision of an exciting indoor and outdoor environment as the site provides scope for excellent indoor/outdoor flow. A garden will be designed to reflect the special physical features of the area and there will also be an opportunity to create a community garden.

New Brighton Library
Te Kete Wānanga o Karoro New Brighton Library
Situated beside the New Brighton Pier, with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, New Brighton Library is a destination for residents of Christchurch as well as tourists from around the world. Designed by Architects Warren and Mahoney, it won a number of architecture awards when it was first opened.

The library opened in July 1999 and was the first in Christchurch to offer services such as the Pipeline, which was designed as a youth space for people 10 years plus that provides interactive games and Sky TV. It is also the only library in the Christchurch City Libraries network that arranges its collection into Living Rooms, a concept designed to help customers browse and find connected or related books together.

New Brighton library provides spaces for groups to meet, community displays, and art exhibitions. It is a vibrant and integral part of the New Brighton community where people can come to relax, listen to music and be mesmerised by the waves, or take part in activities such as baby or preschool story times.

South Christchurch Library
Te Kete Wānanga o Wai Mōkihi South Christchurch Library
Situated beside the Heathcote River, on the corner of Colombo Street and Hunter Terrace, the South Christchurch Library provides facilities for residents to study, meet friends and chat over coffee, take time out to sit and read, access information, learn technology skills, hold meetings, conduct Council business and for families to share learning and recreation experiences. Innovative enhancements include a café, and a Learning Centre for school and community use.
South Library received a supreme award for architecture at the NZIA awards. This was one of only five supreme awards given. In addition to the supreme award the building was also a winner in the "community and cultural" and the "colour" sections. A plaque accompanies the supreme building award and is mounted in the South Library foyer.
