Archivist

Invercargill Public Library

The world knows the story of Burt Munro – ‘the world’s fastest Indian’ but it was right here in Southland the story began.

We have an incredibly rich history to preserve and it’s you who will make a valuable contribution to an exciting long-term project.

Our community archives and Council records are housed in a state of the art purpose built facility located next to, and run in conjunction with the Invercargill Public Library – a team of which you’ll be part. It’s a secure yet accessible home to our city’s most precious records - records that will provide a window to the past for generations to come.

To celebrate and enhance this significant investment, we now wish to appoint a full-time Archivist to manage and maintain our substantial collection of archives with the support of an Archives Assistant. Ideally with a relevant tertiary degree you’ll have a significant background in archives, library or record management systems. You’ll enjoy sharing your world with the public and the many researchers sourcing heritage information and will be working with the latest in technologies and archival standards.

With a heritage as rich as ours there are any number of stories told and untold and you’ll be integral in their preservation. To find out more contact Marianne Foster, Manager - Information Services on 03 211 1444. Otherwise grab an application at www.icc.govt.nz or by calling 03 211 1777.

Send your application to Human Resources, Invercargill City Council, Private Bag 90104, Invercargill by Friday, 11 July 2008.
