3M AWARD FOR INNOVATION IN LIBRARIES
Award
The 3M Award for Innovation in Libraries is sponsored by 3M New Zealand Ltd in conjunction with the Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa to "promote excellence and innovation in Library and Information services"
The award will be made to the Librarian, Information specialist or team who has applied an innovative and entrepreneurial approach to their business.
Prize
The 3M Award for Innovation in Libraries will provide the winners with prizes of $4,000.00 for the winner, $1,000.00 for second place, and $500.00 of 3M products for third place. The money awarded to first and second place is to be used for professional development.
Who is Eligible to Apply?
Any person working in an Information service or Library may apply. This includes people from all types and sizes of Libraries. Entries may be made by an individual or a team. An unit or team should make only one entry, but entries will be accepted from different units within the same organisation. Entries may be a total package or activity, or a single project of short duration with a specific objective which has been accomplished.
Judging
A panel of four judges will be appointed by the President of LIANZA, critical factors in judging will be:
- Clarity and effectiveness of presentation
- Originality of product or process
- Client benefits
The judges will select finalists who will be required to submit a Powerpoint presentation profiling their entry to LIANZA. LIANZA Conference Delegates will view the presentations online from the LIANZA website and place their votes electronically before the conference begins.
How to enter
Each entrant may choose the appropriate format in presenting an entry.
- It should clearly demonstrate a plan, describe the resulting activity and clearly prove client benefits.
- Documentary evidence that the entry was successful in stimulating effective use of the Library and Information services by an innovative approach must be included. The presentation must allow the judging panel to understand and have access to a reasonable demonstration of the effectiveness of the entry.
- Each entry should be no longer than 2,000 words, be accompanied by the entry form and signed by the organisation's Chief Executive.
- A single page summary outlining the objectives, methods and results must accompany each entry.
Closing date for 3M Award is TUESDAY 30 JUNE 2009

YBP/LINDSAY AND CROFT AWARD FOR COLLECTION SERVICES
Award
The YBP/Lindsay and Croft Award for Collection Services recognises the contribution made in libraries by the staff in the areas of collection development, collection management, acquisitions and cataloguing.
The annual award consists of a $2000 grant donated by YBP, and a citation. These will be presented at the annual conference of LIANZA.Submission procedures
Nominations shall include:
- Name of nominee
- The date the nominee entered their first professional position in the Collection Services area
- A formal statement of nomination, including the reason for the nomination, and a resume of the career and contributions of the nominee, with sufficient detail for the nomination panel to make their decision
- Letters of endorsement may also be provided, but the determining factor in the selection process will be the accomplishments of the nominee
- A nominee must be a current member of LIANZA
- A nominee must currently be working in the collection development or technical services area
Criteria
Evidence of the nominee's accomplishments, as they are related to collection development or technical services could include such activities as:
- Leadership in professional associations and /or activities at the local, regional, or national level
- Contributions to the development, application, or utilisation of new or improved methods, techniques and routines
- Contribution to the professional literature
- Conduct of studies or research in collection development and/or technical services
- There is no restriction on the type of library the nominee may be working in.
Selection
Nominations must be received by TUESDAY 30 JUNE 2009 at the LIANZA Office, PO Box 12-212, Wellington.
The Nomination Panel will be chaired by the President of LIANZA (or nominee), and will include a representative of Te Röpü Whakahau, the Council member responsible for the Professional Development Portfolio on Council, and a member of LIANZA, from outside the Council, who has experience in the collection services area.

Its primary purpose is to assist LIANZA members to undertake various forms of professional development in the field of library management and operation.
This annual award set at $4,500.00 inclusive of GST is divided equally over the six NZ regions.
Previously, Hydestor Manufacturing Ltd has sponsored hard copy newsletters for various regions of LIANZA and with these newsletters becoming electronic; it was proposed that the sponsorship be continued in a new format such as this Professional Development Award.
This award is not limited to any specific activity and members should be encouraged to apply for assistance for any activity that will develop and enhance their professional skills. The applications and recipients of the award are to be administered by each regional chairperson and committee.
