President's Blog
Kia ora koutou katoa
Well, it’s that time in the Presidential year when all of a sudden you realise your term is coming to an end and you still have so much you want to achieve. The Christchurch earthquakes have disrupted my intention to get out and about to meet as many members as possible, but I have a few visits in the planning and I am very much looking forward to attending the Waikato Bay of Plenty weekend School being held at Waitomo in early May.
You may recall in my last blog I talked about a project to rebuild our membership database which is currently using old technology which is about to become unsupported. I am delighted to advise that this project is now underway to be completed before the end of June, so that our invoicing for the new financial year will be using the new database.
I am also very pleased to announce that LIANZA office will be moving to premises in Victoria Street at the end of May. The building is in a good location on what is termed the city fringe and provides a light airy professional space for LIANZA‘s administrative function. We are also pleased that both the New Zealand Book Council and Association of Public Library Managers staff will continue to be co-locate with us. The search for suitable new premises has not been without challenges with work on this having started back in March last year so this is an excellent result.
The Council election process is well underway and nominations for the 4 vacant positions will have closed by the time my blog is published and should we get more than one nomination for any of these will of course depend on whether elections will follow.
I hope you have all had some quality time off over the Easter break.
Ka kite ano
Carolyn Robertson
