Professional Registration – Mature Scheme Process

Lately we have been getting a lot of queries and new applications for Professional Registration in the LIANZA office. I thought it would be a good time to demystify the process for anyone who might be thinking about registering over the summer.

The application process has full notes to assist you with applying and gives details of all the requirements. If you hold one of the listed qualifications, are a member of LIANZA or one of our affiliate organisations and are prepared to undertake a period of mentoring, you are ready to apply. Depending on your qualification and professional experience the Profession Registration Board may offer a waiver of the mentored training and this will be advised on acceptance. If you need a little clarification then send me an email wendy@lianza.org.nz

Once you have determined whether you will apply via Route A, B or C you will need to send your application into the LIANZA office. The application is receipted by our lovely Membership Manager, Anna, and then forwarded to me for checking the submission details. If all the documentation is good to go, I send the application to two of our Board members for approval.

Upon approval we will send you a letter, detailing either one of the following paths:

  1. the application has been approved and the applicant needs to select a mentor and prepare a professional training plan – further details on the website mentoring scheme. Depending on the applicant’s experience, the Board may ask for professional training in certain areas of the Body of Knowledge, or full coverage. This training could be for a period of three to 12 months. We have lots of information and examples on the mentoring pages on the website.

  2. the mentored training has been waived and upon payment of the registration invoice the applicant will be registered.

If you are considering applying for registration, but not sure whether you meet the criteria, and maybe feel like aspects seem in the ‘too hard’ basket right now, please email me with your questions or concerns. We get some really positive comments back from registrants who initially thought the process was going to be too daunting, but then the personal and professional development they received from their mentor was invaluable and really worthwhile.
