1. Credentials Committee First compiled in this format, November 1992. (Edited and reformatted 1998, Revised 1999, 2000 and 2008) 1. CREDENTIALS COMMITTEE (See Rule 27 (ii)) 1.1 The Council shall appoint a Credentials Committee, under Rule 27(ii), to examine and report upon every application or nomination for the grant of an Associateship: or application or nomination for a LIANZA Award of Merit; or nomination for a Fellowship, or LIANZA Letter of Recognition. 1.2 The Credentials Committee shall consist of seven members, of whom at least three shall be selected from Fellows of the Association and four from Associates of at least five years' standing. Members of the Committee shall be selected from a variety of types of library and should give as wide a geographical representation as possible. 1.3 The initial term of appointment will be for two years. Council shall review the membership annually and no member of the Committee shall serve more than five consecutive years. When appointing the Committee, Council shall give due regard to the need for continuity of membership of the Committee. 1.4 National Council shall appoint a Chair of the Credentials Committee at the final meeting of Council for the current financial year. Any member appointed to Chair the Credentials Committee must have previously served on the National Council of the Association. 1.5 Only in very exceptional circumstances should nominations (or applications) for any awards be accepted for current members of the Credential Committee. If such nominations are received then the Chair of the Credentials Committee must ensure the nominee takes no part in any discussions for that particular award for any member at that time. 1.6 The Credentials Committee shall have the power to seek specialist expertise if needed to do justice to a candidate. The Credentials Committee shall not have the power to co-opt members to its Committee. 1.7 Subject to legal requirements the deliberations of the Credentials Committee and information received or held in connection with those deliberations shall be confidential to that Committee. 1.8 The names of approved applications and nominations only shall be reported to Council. However, the number of total applications for each award, and the qualifications of applicants for an Associateship, will also be reported to Council. 2. CRITERIA FOR THE AWARD OF AN ASSOCIATESHIP OF THE NEW ZEALAND LIBRARY ASSOCIATION INC. (OPERATING AS LIANZA) Associateship enquiries will be provided with the criteria and entry form
2.1 General 2.1.1 The Association, under Rule 4 (iv) has instituted as titles of merit an Associateship of the Association. Holders of these awards are entitled to use the titles Associate of the New Zealand Library Association Inc. (operating as LIANZA) (ALIANZA). 2.1.2 No person may use the title Associate of the New Zealand Library Association Inc. (operating as LIANZA) or the initials until they have received official notification in writing. 2.2 Definition 2.2.1 An Associate of LIANZA is a personal member of the Association who has demonstrated the knowledge, skills, judgement, attitude and commitment of a professional librarian and or information manager. 2.3 Requirements 2.3.1 A personal member of the Association who wishes to be considered for an Associateship may apply, providing the following initial requirements are met. (a) The applicant holds a recognised New Zealand library qualification or a recognised qualification from an overseas library school or archival institute. (b) The applicant has completed a least five years of satisfactory service since obtaining the qualification, of which at least three years have been spent in a New Zealand organisation. (c) The applicant has been a member of the Association for at least five years. If the applicant has been employed overseas during this period, membership of an overseas Association will be recognised. 2.4 Criteria 2.4.1 The following criteria will be used by the Credentials Committee in assessing the applicant's suitability for the award of an Associateship: (a) Practical knowledge and skills in providing library/information services: (i) Competence and achievement in some particular aspect(s) of library and information services (such as circulation services, book selection, collection development, cataloguing, reference and information services, response to community/user needs, specific services, e.g. Bi/multicultural, young persons, outreach, special needs, archives, records management, research, user surveys, etc.). (ii) A well–demonstrated understanding of the information needs of clients, and the delivery of services to meet those needs. (b) Management and planning responsibilities: Some of the categories below may not be applicable to the applicant. This will depend upon the applicant's work circumstances (i) Staff management (ii) Financial management (iii) Resource management (iv) Implementing and managing of appropriate and/or innovative library and information services (v) Initiating or contributing to projects or changes/improvements in existing services (vi) Marketing services (vii) Evaluating and implementing appropriate technologies (viii) Planning own work and that of others, setting priorities and aligning with organisational goals and objectives (c) Professional development and professional contribution: (i) Self-development of professional perspectives and objectives through professional reading, Internet discussion groups (ii) Continuing education through such activities as attendance at seminars and workshops (iii) An awareness of professional issues (iv) Knowledge of and/or participation in the work and activities of the Association, and other relevant organisations 2.5 The Application Procedure 2.5.1 The applicant's suitability will be assessed by the Credentials Committee in terms of the above criteria, on the basis of the following: (a) A confidential written application on the official form, including stating of qualifications, length of service, and professional association membership (The application should be accompanied by the required fee). (b) A written personal record of around 500 to 1,000 words, describing the applicant's library/information service and giving evidence of the application of skills and competence required by a professional librarian. The applicants support group may supplement the application (c) Written referees' reports from at least three persons nominated by the applicant, but not including current members of the Credentials Committee. The applicant is to request the referees to supply their reports directly to the LIANZA Office. Guidelines to assist referees are provided. The Committee may also approach people other than those named by the candidate for specialist expertise if it requires further information relevant to the candidate's application. (d) Four copies of evidence of written work (supporting information) produced by the applicant, in the form of books, articles, reports, annotated bibliographies, service guides, etc., should be sent with the application This may include work produced jointly where the applicant can be shown to have played a significant role. A bibliography of the applicant's publications would be useful. 2.6 The Interview 2.6.1 An interview by at least three members of the Credentials Committee, one of whom is the Chair. The interview will usually last from 1 to 1 1/2 hours. All applicants are offered the choice of whanau or other support at the interview. The applicant should advise the Chair at the time of application if whanau or support persons will be attending the interview. Support groups will have the opportunity to speak for up to 10 minutes. 2.6.2 At the beginning of the interview, the applicant should make a brief presentation (approximately 10 minutes) of work and accomplishments. If visual aids are to be used the applicant should advise the Chair of the Committee in advance to allow the provision of suitable viewing facilities. 2.6.3 The interview will be structured to give the applicant the opportunity to amplify on the written application, and also give the Credentials Committee members the chance to evaluate the applicant in terms of the criteria of the award. 2.6.4 The closing date for applications is 31 March each year. 2.6.5 The closing date for receipt of confidential referee's reports is 14 April each year. 2.6.6 Every application for an Associateship shall be on the official form and the application fee shall be determined from time to time by the National Council in consultation with the Credentials Committee. Copies of the official form available from the Association Office and the website. 3. ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES FOR THE AWARD OF AN ASSOCIATESHIP OF THE NEW ZEALAND LIBRARY ASSOCIATION INC. (OPERATING AS LIANZA) 3.1 Application 3.1.1. Applications for the award of Associateship are considered annually and close on 31 March each year. At the point of application all applicants should have been sent the Associateship Criteria and appropriate documents. Immediately upon receipt of an application the Association Office will acknowledge its receipt. 3.1.2 Within three working days following 14 April the LIANZA Office will send a copy of all application documentation to the Chair of the Credentials Committee 3.1.3 Within two weeks, the Chair of the Credentials Committee will arrange interviews by a subcommittee, comprising the Chair and at least two other members of the Committee. 3.1.4 Interviews will be held in locations which provide the least inconvenience for all participants. Applications should be checked to see if there are any whanau or support interviews as this may affect the size of venue required. If visual aids are needed equipment will need to be arranged. Members of the Interview Panel, other than the Chair, will be selected in accordance with the location of the interview and, if possible, to obtain a balance of types of library. Where possible, the Interview Panel will include a gender mix. 3.1.5 As soon as the interview locations have been determined, the Administration Officer will write to each of the applicants to arrange the interview. 3.2 The Interview 3.2.1 Applicants will be required for interview by a minimum of three members of the Credentials Committee (including the Chair) at a time and place set by the Committee and applicants will be responsible for all expenses incurred in attending that interview. Applicants may request a whanau interview, or that support persons be present. 3.2.2 The interview will be structured to give the applicant the opportunity to amplify on the written application, and also give the Credentials committee members the chance to evaluate the applicant in terms of the criteria for the award. Applicants may request either a whanau interview, or that support persons be present 3.2.3 The interview should last from 1 to 1 1/2 hours. 3.2.4 At the beginning of the interview the applicant should make a presentation (approximately 10 minutes), to present an overview of their work and accomplishments. The applicant may arrange to use visual aids in the interview, to amplify aspects of work or accomplishments. If this is to be done, the applicant should advise the Chair of the Committee in advance to allow the provision of suitable viewing facilities. If the applicant is supported by a group or whanau they will have an opportunity to speak for up to 10 minutes. 3.2.5 The applicant will be assessed in the interview on the criteria included in the Code of Practice Part 3, Section 2, Criteria for the Award for Associateship and on information provided in the application and use the Interview form to pull the assessments together. 3.2.6 After each set of interviews, members of the Interview Panel will discuss the candidates and produce a provisional assessment. Members will share responsibility for the preparation of one full report on each of the candidates, describing the interview and the assessment. These reports will be presented to the full Credentials Committee at its meeting. 3.3 Post-Interview 3.3.1 As soon as possible following the interviews, the Chair will convene a meeting of the full Credentials Committee to consider the applicants. 3.3.2 The President of LIANZA will be invited to this meeting. 3.3.3 If necessary and desirable to do justice to a candidate, specialist expertise may be called upon. This will be organised by the Chair before the full Committee meeting, and the information made available to members of the Committee at that meeting. 3.3.4 The Chair will brief the LIANZA President on all the applications for Associateships. 3.3.5 The Chair will report to the Council providing the total number of applicants and the names of the successful candidates, in time for the final meeting of Council in the current financial year. 3.3.6 As soon as possible after Council has confirmed the recommendations of the Credentials Committee, the President will write to all candidates advising them of the decisions. If considered appropriate, or requested by the applicant, the Chair will write to an unsuccessful candidate advising the reasons for not gaining the award. This should be done if the candidate was marginal and has the potential to achieve the award through additional experience. The Chair will arrange for this letter to be sent at the same time as the letter from the President. 3.3.7 Citations and photographs of successful Candidates will be published on the website and in Library Life as soon as possible after the awards are announced. 3.3.8 The Association Office will co-ordinate the presentation of awards, either through the local regional committees or at a national function. 3.3.9 The Association Office will send a letter to the employers of successful candidates celebrating and explaining the award. 4. CRITERIA FOR THE AWARD OF A FELLOWSHIP OF THE NEW ZEALAND LIBRARY ASSOCIATION INC. (OPERATING AS LIANZA) Fellowship enquiries will be provided with the criteria and nomination form 4.1 General 4.1.1 The Association, under Rule 4 (iv) has instituted as titles of merit a Fellowship of the Association. Holders of these awards are entitled to use the titles Fellow of the New Zealand Library Association Inc. (operating as LIANZA) (FLIANZA). 4.1.2 No person may use the title Fellow of the New Zealand Library Association Inc. (operating as LIANZA) or the initials until they have received official notification in writing. 4.2 Definition 4.2.1 A Fellow of LIANZA is a personal member of the Association who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of librarianship and/or information management through a sustained record of achievements, or who has demonstrated outstanding qualities of leadership, teaching or research 4.3 Requirements 4.3.1 The award of a Fellowship is open to any personal member of the Association who satisfies the following initial requirements: (a) The nominee has held for at least ten years and has competently discharged the duties of a library or information management position involving possession of knowledge and judgement required for the highest levels of professional librarianship; (b) The nominee has been a member of the Association for the whole of the period of qualifying service. 4.3.2 Only in very exceptional circumstances should nominations (or applications) for any awards be accepted for current members of the Credentials Committee. If such nominations are received then the Chair of the Credentials Committee must ensure that the nominee takes no part in any discussions for that particular award for any member at that time. 4.4 Criteria 4.4.1 The following criteria will be used by the Credentials Committee to assess the nominee's suitability for the award of a Fellowship: (a) Specific achievements in developing and providing library and/or information management services (b) Outstanding and sustained leadership, management or teaching ability (c) Major research into librarianship and/or information management services; or research which advances understanding of librarianship and library or information practices. 4.5 Process for Nominations 4.5.1 The nominee's suitability will be assessed by the Credentials Committee in terms of the above criteria, on the basis of the following: 4.5.2 Any person eligible may be nominated for a Fellowship by at least two members holding Associateships or Fellowships of the Association. The nomination shall be confidential, and the nominee must not be made aware of the nomination. 4.5.3 Every nomination for a Fellowship shall be on the official form available from the Association Office or the LIANZA website. 4.5.4 Supporting evidence, supplied by the nominators, which supplements the comments made in the written nomination. This may include statements from others in support of the nomination. 4.5.5 Nominations for Fellowships are considered annually and close on 31 March each year. 4.5.6 There is no fee for either nomination or registration of a Fellow.
5. THE ‘REGISTER’ OF ASSOCIATES AND FELLOWS 5.1 General 5.1.1 There shall be a Register of Associates and Fellows. The Register shall contain the names and qualifications of Associates and Fellows and other particulars as determined by the Council. 5.1.2 The Council shall appoint a Registrar who will be responsible for maintaining the Register and receipt of any fees payable. 5.1.3 The Register is open to inspection and the Council may authorise publication of the Register or of changes to it. 5.2 Amendment of Register 5.2.1 The Register shall be amended when the registration of an Associate or Fellow is cancelled, or when an Associate becomes a Fellow. 5.3 Cancellation of Registration 5.3.1 Registration of an Associate or Fellow shall be cancelled upon death; or if the recipient is a public defaulter, or is convicted of any crime punishable by imprisonment for a term of two years or more, or is convicted of a corrupt practice. 5.3.2 If the Council receives trustworthy evidence of misconduct by an Associate or Fellow which, in the opinion of the Council renders the Associate or Fellow unsuitable to hold the award, the Council may by confidential letter ask the Associate or Fellow to show cause why the registration should not be cancelled and the charter recalled. If no reply is received or if the explanation given is deemed by the Council to be unsatisfactory, the Council may cancel the registration, notify the holder and recall the charter. 5.3.3 Cancellation of registration for causes other than death shall not be a permanent barrier to reissuing a title where the Council decides circumstances justify it. 5.3.4 A person may use the distinction of Associate or Fellow only while they remain a personal member of the Association, or if no longer living in New Zealand or belonging to some similar organisation in another country. This restriction does not apply if the person is no longer directly employed in library and/or information work due to retirement or employment in another sector. 5.4 Issue of Charters 5.4.1 Associates and Fellows shall receive a Charter in the form decided by the Council. Charters will be signed by the President of the Association, and will include a statement that the Charter shall remain in force as long as the entry authorising its issue remains on the Register. 5.5 Charters already granted 5.5.1 All Charters already granted under previous rules of the Association shall remain valid so long as the holders remain eligible, and all actions taken under the previous rules shall be deemed to have been done validly. 5.5.2 Associateships and Fellowships awarded up to 1993 (when the name of the Association was changed) may choose to use either the initials: ANZLA or ALIANZA, FNZLA or FLIANZA 5.5.3 Associateships and Fellowships awarded from 1993 to 1998 inclusive (when the Association was known as New Zealand Library and Information Association) may choose to use either the initials: ANZLIA or ALIANZA, FNZLIA or FLIANZA 6. CRITERIA FOR THE AWARD OF LIANZA LETTER OF RECOGNITION LIANZA Letter of Recognition enquiries will be provided with the criteria and nomination form 6.1 General 6.1.1 The Association, under Rule 4 (iv) has instituted a LIANZA Letter of Recognition. 6.2 Definition 6.2.1 The recipient of a LIANZA Letter of Recognition is an individual or organisation who/which has rendered a focussed, significant and special service to the Association, or demonstrated continuing service over a period of time to the Association, or made an outstanding contribution to librarianship, libraries or information management in New Zealand. 6.2.2 The LIANZA Letter of Recognition is not available routinely to persons in the course of normal retirement. Recipients of a LIANZA Letter of Recognition need not be members of the New Zealand Library Association Inc. (operating as LIANZA). 6.3 Eligibility 6.3.1 The LIANZA Letter of Recognition could be awarded more than once to a person for different achievements, and it might be awarded to more than one recipient in any given year. 6.4 Requirements 5.4.1 Any organisation or person may be nominated for a LIANZA Letter of Recognition by at least two members of the Association. The nomination shall be confidential, and the nominee must not be made aware of the nomination. 6.5 Criteria 6.5.1 The following criteria will be used by the Credentials Committee in assessing a nominee's suitability for the award of a LIANZA Letter of Recognition: (a) Contribution of a significant special service to LIANZA, or (b) Contribution of continuing significant service to the New Zealand Library Association Inc. (operating as LIANZA) (c) Made an outstanding contribution to librarianship, libraries or information management in New Zealand 6.6 Process for Nominations/Applictions 6.6.1 The nominee's suitability will be assessed by the Credentials Committee in terms of the above criteria, on the basis of the following: 6.6.2 Any organisation or person may be nominated for a LIANZA Letter of Recognition by at least two Members of the Association. The nomination shall be confidential, and the nominee must not be made aware of the nomination. 6.6.3 Supporting evidence, supplied by the nominators, which supplements the comments made in the written nomination. 6.6.4 Nominations for LIANZA Letters of Recognition are considered annually and close on 31 March each year. 6.6.5 Copies of the official form are available from the Association Office or the LIANZA website. No fee is required. 6.7 Issue of Certificate 6.7.1 Recipients of a LIANZA Letter of Recognition shall be issued with a Certificate, in the form decided by the National Council, which shall be signed by the President of the Association. 6.8 Record of recipients 6.8.1 The Association's Office shall keep a record of recipients, which shall be available for inspection. 7. CRITERIA FOR THE Joint Letter of Recognition for Bicultural Development within New Zealand Aotearoa LIANZA Joint Letter of Recognition enquiries will be provided with the criteria and nomination form 7.1 General 7.1.1 The Association, under Rule 4 (iv) has instituted a Joint Letter of Recognition for Bicultural Development with New Zealand Aotearoa. 7.2 Definition 7.2.1 The recipient of the Joint Letter of Recognition for Bicultural Development within New Zealand Aotearoa is an individual, group or organization who has rendered a significant and special bicultural service to the library and information profession within New Zealand, Aotearoa, or demonstrated commitment to biculturalism over a period of time to the profession, or made an outstanding contribution bi-culturally to librarianship, libraries or information management in New Zealand. 7.2.2 Joint Letter of Recognition for Bicultural Development within New Zealand, Aotearoa, need not be a member of LIANZA 7.3 Eligibility 7.3.1 The Joint Letter or Recognition for Bicultural Development within New Zealand, Aotearoa could be awarded more than once to a person for different achievements, and it might be awarded to more than one recipient in any one year 7.4 Purpose 7.4.1 To recognise achievement in: (a) bicultural service to the library and information profession within New Zealand, Aotearoa (b) or demonstrated commitment to biculturalism over a period of time to the profession, (c) or made an outstanding contribution bi-culturally to librarianship, libraries or information management in New Zealand. 7.5 Requirements 7.5.1 Any individual, group or organisation is eligible for this award. 7.5.2 Any individual, group or organization may be nominated for a Joint Letter or Recognition for Bicultural Development within New Zealand, Aotearoa. 7.5.3 The nomination shall be confidential and the nominated must not be made aware of the nomination 7.6 Criteria 7.6.1 The following criteria will be used by the Credentials Committee in assessing a nominee’s suitability for the award Joint Letter or Recognition for Bicultural Development within New Zealand, Aotearoa: (a) Contribution of a significant special service to bicultural services in the information profession (b) Demonstrated commitment to biculturalism over a period of time to the profession (c) Made an outstanding contribution bi-culturally to librarianship, libraries or information management in New Zealand 7.7 Process 7.7.1 The nominee’s suitability will be assessed by the Credentials Committee in terms of the above criteria on the basis of the following: (a) Confidential written nomination, on the official form, made by at least two members of either LIANZA or Te Roopu Whakahau. (b) All nominations must be confidential and the nominee must not be made aware of the nomination (c) Supporting evidence, supplied by the nominators, which supplements the comments made in the written nomination 7.7.2 The closing date for nominations is 31 March each year 7.7.3 Every nomination for a Letter of Recognition for Joint Bicultural Development within New Zealand Aotearoa shall be on the official form available from either the LIANZA Office, LIANZA website or the Te Roopu Whakahau Kai-Awhina/Secretary and shall comply with the requirements set out by Te Roopu Whakahau and LIANZA 7.7.4 No fee is required 7.8 Decision of the National Council 7.8.1 When the Credentials Committee of the LIANZA receives the nomination, it shall work in consultation with a nominated representative of Te Roopu Whakahau Executive to ensure an informed decision is made on recommending the award. 7.8.2 No Letter of Recognition for Bicultural Development within New Zealand Aotearoa shall be granted unless the Credentials Committee has recommended that this be done 7.8.3 As soon as possible after LIANZA Council and Te Roopu Whakahau have made their decision on any nomination for a Letter of Recognition for Bicultural Development within New Zealand Aotearoa, the President of the Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa shall notify all successful nominees, in writing. 7.9 Issue of Letter 7.9.1 Recipients of the Joint Letter of Recognition for Bicultural Development within New Zealand Aotearoa shall be issued with the Letter of Recognition at the Awards ceremony of the LIANZA annual conference. 7.9.2 Special mention of the recipients shall also be made at the Te Roopu Whakahau Hui-a-Tau. 7.9.3 The Letter, shall be co-signed and presented by the LIANZA President and the Tumuaki of Te Roopu Whakahau 7.10 Record of Recipients 7.10.1 The Association’s Office shall keep a record of recipients, which shall be available for inspection 8. CRITERIA FOR THE AWARD OF LIANZA AWARD OF MERIT – MANAGEMENT LIANZA Award of Merit – Management enquiries will be provided with the criteria and nomination/application form 8.1 General 8.1.1 The Association, under rule 4 (iv) has instituted the LIANZA Award of Merit – Management 8.2 Definition 8.2.1 The recipient of a LIANZA Award of Merit – Management is a personal member of the Association who has contributed in an outstanding manner to library and/or information services in the area of management in New Zealand. 8.3 Eligibility 8.3.1 The LIANZA Award of Merit – Management may be awarded to more than one member in any given year and may be awarded more than once to the same member for different achievements. 8.3.2 The LIANZA Award of Merit – Management is available to all personal members working in libraries and/or information centres. 8.3.3 This award is open to all people working in libraries whether they are professional librarians or not. Applicants/nominees do not have to hold any other LIANZA award. 8.4 Purpose 8.4.1 To recognise achievement in Management which: – (a) Encourages innovation and excellence (b) Shares new ideas or innovative approaches to management with other libraries so they can also incorporate them or build on for themselves, as appropriate. (c) Fosters high morale in management (d) Raises the profile of management in the New Zealand library and/or information community 8.5 Requirements 8.5.1 Any personal member of the Association of at least two years standing is eligible for the award of LIANZA Award of Merit Management either by application; or by nomination by at least two members of the Association. Confidentiality is not required in the case of nomination. 8.5.2 The achievement for which the award is to be made must have taken place within the previous two years. 8.5.3 The applicant or nominee should have demonstrated achievement in Management in: (a) Any aspect which supports the purposes of the award as outlined in 8.4.1 above (b) Planning and implementing a programme, service or special project (c) Demonstrating outstanding skills in resource allocation (d) Identifying or implementing an innovative approach to solving a problem in an aspect of management. (e) Displaying excellent communication skills, leadership and interpersonal relations 8.6 Criteria 8.6.1 The following criteria will be used by the Credentials Committee in assessing a nominee's or applicant's suitability for the award of a LIANZA Award of Merit – Management: (a) Demonstrated leadership in the library or unit the person manages (b) Demonstrated excellence in management skills (c) Establishment of successful communication and relations between the service and its clients and, where appropriate, the manager and staff (d) Significant improvement in service delivery to the clients of the library or information service as a result of the nominee's or applicant's innovative management practices. 8.7 Process for Nominations/Applications 8.7.1 The nominee's or applicant's suitability will be assessed by the Credentials Committee in terms of the above criteria, on the basis of the following: 8.7.2 A written nomination, on the official form, made by at least two members of the Association, or by a group or committee of the Association; or, a written application by a personal member, on the official form. Nominators do not need to be confidential. 8.7.3 Supporting evidence, supplied by the nominator or applicant, which supplements the comments made in the written nomination or application. 8.7.4 Written referees reports from at least two persons nominated by the applicant, but not including current members of the Credentials Committee. 8.7.5 The Credentials Committee may seek further information if required to reach a decision. 8.7.6 Nominations or Applications for the LIANZA Awards of Merit Management are considered annually and close on 31 March each year. 8.7.7 The closing date for referees' reports is 14 April each year. 8.7.8 Every nomination or application for a LIANZA Award of Merit Management shall be on the official form available from the Association Office or the LIANZA website {add link}. No fee is required. 8.8 Issue of Certificate 8.8.1 Recipients of a LIANZA Award of Merit Management shall be issued with a Certificate, in the form decided by the National Council, which shall be signed by the President of the Association. 8.9 Record of Recipients 8.9.1 The Association's Office shall keep a record of recipients, which shall be available for inspection. 9. CRITERIA FOR THE AWARD OF LIANZA AWARD OF MERIT – MARKETING LIANZA Award of Merit – Marketing enquiries will be provided with the criteria and nomination/application form 9.1 General 9.1.1 The Association, under rule 4 (iv) has instituted the LIANZA Award of Merit – Marketing 9.2 Definition 9.2.1 The recipient of a LIANZA Award of Merit – Marketing is an individual who has contributed in an outstanding manner to library and/or information services in the area of marketing. 9.3 Eligibility 9.3.1 The LIANZA Award of Merit – Marketing may be awarded to more than one member or group in any given year. 9.3.2 The award can be given more than once to the same person for different achievements. 9.3.3 Applicant/nominee does not need to hold any other LIANZA award. 9.4 Purpose 9.4.1 To recognise achievement in marketing which: (a) Encourages innovation and excellence (b) Acts as a catalyst and model for other library public relations and marketing initiatives (c) Shares new ideas or innovative approaches to marketing with other libraries so they can also incorporate them or build on for themselves, as appropriate. (d) Fosters high morale in marketing (e) Raises the profile of marketing in the New Zealand library and information community 9.5 Requirements 9.5.1 Preference will be given to personal members, who may join the Association at the time of application. 9.5.2 Members may make direct application, or may be nominated by at least two members of the Association. 9.5.3 All public relations or marketing initiatives from persons working in all libraries or information centres are eligible. 9.5.4 The award is open to all LIANZA members working in libraries or information centres whether they are professional librarians or not. 9.5.5 The applicant or nominee should have demonstrated achievement during the previous two years in any aspect of marketing, which supports the award as outlined in paragraph 14.3 above. 9.6 Criteria 9.6.1 The following criteria will be used by the Credentials Committee in assessing a nominee's or applicant's suitability for the prestigious award of a LIANZA Award of Merit – Marketing, which honours professional excellence and innovation. The programme should have: (a) Generated public awareness and support for their organisation and/or (b) Designed a successful component that had a direct impact on their customers, such as: (i) a promotion of a new building (ii) a collection or fund raising appeal 9.6.2 Each entry must include evidence of the marketing project. 9.7 Process for Nominations/Applications 9.7.1 The nominee's or applicant's suitability will be assessed by the Credentials Committee in terms of the above criteria, on the basis of the following: (a) Either an application made by a personal member, on the official form written nomination, or (b) A written nomination on the official form, made by at least two members of the Association. PROCEDURES FOR THE AWARDS (EXCEPT ASSOCIATES) 10.1 General 10.1.1 Nominations or applications will close on 31 March each year. 10.1.2 More than one type of award may be made in the same calendar year. 10.1.3 A person may receive more than one award in the same year. 10.1.4 If there are no nominees or applicants of sufficient calibre, no awards need be made. 10.1.5 An individual may be awarded more than one LIANZA Award of Merit; and an individual or organisation may be awarded more than one LIANZA Letter of Recognition, for different achievements. 10.2 Request for Nominations 10.2.1 Nominations and applications will be requested through a notice in Library Life 10.2.2 Prior to the close of nominations the President will write to all regions and SIGs and request them to consider making nominations. 10.3 Credentials Committee consideration 10.3.1 After the 31 March the Credentials Committee will consider all nominations or applications for awards in the terms of the criteria for each award as set down in the appropriate Section of the Code of Practice. 10.3.2 For each nomination or application which the Credentials Committee recommends, a member of the committee will be delegated to prepare a suitable citation based on the written nomination or application and the discussion during the meeting. 10.3.3 The Chair will brief the President LIANZA on all successful applicants/nominees for LIANZA Awards. 10.3.4 The Chair of the Credentials Committee will report the recommendations together with the citations to National Council, by 30 June. 10.4 Notification 10.4.1 As soon as possible after National Council has confirmed the awards, the President will write to all recipient(s) advising them of the award. 10.4.2 Unsuccessful applicants will be advised of the result of their application by the Chair of the Credentials Committee who will also advise those nominators who are not members of the Credentials Committee of the decisions made. 10.5 Publicity 10.5.1 The Association Office will publish the citations and photographs of successful recipient(s) on the website and in Library Life. 10.5.2 The Association Office will co-ordinate the presentation of all awards either at the next Annual General Meeting of the Association, or at another appropriate time.
